8th Day of Christmas: Wise Men

“When they heard the king, they departed; and behold, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came and stood over where the young Child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.” -‭‭Matthew‬ ‭2‬:‭9‬-‭11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The wise men’s journey was long and filled with uncertainty, yet they persevered, guided by a star and their faith. When they finally found Jesus, they responded with two profound acts: worship and giving.

Their gifts—gold, frankincense, and myrrh—weren’t random. Each symbolized their recognition of Jesus’ identity: gold for His kingship, frankincense for His divinity, and myrrh for His sacrificial death. Through these offerings, they demonstrated their reverence and understanding of who Jesus was.

Their story reminds us that true worship involves more than words or songs—it requires offering our best to God. This isn’t just about material gifts but also about giving Him our time, talents, and hearts. Worship is an act of surrender, acknowledging Jesus as King in every area of our lives.

Reflect on what you can offer to God as an act of worship. Is it your time in prayer? Your talents in service? Perhaps it’s surrendering a part of your life you’ve been holding back. Like the wise men, give intentionally and joyfully, knowing that your gifts honor the One who gave everything for you.
