August 4, 2023- I Am A New Person In Christ. My Past Won’t Be Held Against Me.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” -‭‭II Corinthians‬ ‭5‬:‭17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

In the movie Daddy Day Care, there is a kid who wears a costume every day he shows up. He believes that he is The Flash (a superhero.) He does everything The Flash does. While they are doing an activity outside, this kid goes missing. They search all over trying to find him. In the midst of trying to find him, they find the costume. However, the kid is not wearing it. They walk inside the house figuring out how they are going tell his parents. As they do, they see a young boy sitting at the table eating a cookie that they don’t recognize. They asked what his name was. The boy replied, “Tony.” They remembered that the boy who wore The Flash costume’s real name was Tony. He told them, “I don’t want to be The Flash anymore. I just want to be Tony.”

When we make a decision to be a new person in Christ, it is a change of identity. We no longer go by the same name or do some of the same things. Paul says here old things have passed away and all things become new. People will want to remember the old you and think that is who you should be because that is how they knew you. When Christ has a hold of your life, your past is forgiven. The mistakes you made, His love covers them. People will remember you and want you to be The Flash again, but it’s time for you to be Tony.
