7th Day of Christmas: Shepherds

“So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.” And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger.” -Luke‬ ‭2‬:‭15‬-‭16‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The shepherds in this passage are a powerful example of faith in action. After hearing the angels’ announcement, they didn’t hesitate or question the message—they immediately said, “Let’s go.” They left their flocks, their comfort zone, and their daily routines to witness the miraculous event.

It’s striking that God chose to reveal this incredible news to shepherds, people who were often overlooked and undervalued in society. Yet they responded with obedience and eagerness, reminding us that God doesn’t call the qualified—He qualifies the called.

Their story challenges us to examine how we respond to God’s invitations in our lives. Are we quick to obey, or do we delay, waiting for more confirmation or better timing? Like the shepherds, we are invited to encounter Jesus, but it requires faith and action.


Consider where God might be calling you to take action. Is there a step of faith you’ve been hesitant to take? Like the shepherds, choose to respond immediately. Whether it’s reaching out to someone in need, committing time to prayer, or simply drawing closer to God, trust that your obedience will lead you to a deeper encounter with Him.
