August 12, 2023- The Lord’s Purpose Will Prevail In My Life

“Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.” -Proverbs‬ ‭19‬:‭21‬ ‭ESV‬‬

A couple of years ago, our basketball team had a chance to win our zone and play for the district championship. It was a tough game where we had to come back from a twenty point deficit to win. The girls came back and now had a one point lead with about fifteen seconds left. I knew that we could not let them get the ball in. I had a player who was young and hadn’t played much during the season as she was still figuring out the how to play at the varsity level. I know that she wanted to play more, but there were things that she had do a little better. Since I was her coach, I also knew what she did well. She was an outstanding volleyball player.

I put her in the game and told her not to let them get the ball in. The ref blew the whistle and the girl tried to throw the ball in. My player jumped up swatted the ball directly to her teammate who made a layup. The next play, she does it again. We win the game to play for the district championship. Her skills at the right time, won the game for us.

How many times in life do we find ourselves on the bench when feel that we should be playing the game? We have our own ideas as to how things should be playing in our lives. We get so caught up in our will that we forget God has a purpose for our lives. Whatever you may be facing or experiencing, there is a lesson to be learned for a game winning moment. God is preparing you for something bigger than our own desires. He is preparing you for purpose and His purpose will always win.
