April 14, 2024: I Will Do Things The Right Way

”There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.“ -Proverbs‬ ‭14‬:‭12‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

When I was a junior in high school, I took Precalculus for my math class. I sat next to one of the smartest girls in the school. We had homework to complete that day and we compared our answers with each other as we worked them out. I was excited and felt like I was understanding the work because our answers matched up. I was for sure that I was getting a 100 on this homework assignment. The next day, we got our grades back in class. My expected 100 was missing a 1 and a 0. My grade was a 0. I looked at her grade and she had a zero as well.  We wondered what we did wrong and we found out we only did part of the problem. We still had another part to complete. Here we were thinking that we got them right, but we missed the assignment. What was right in our own eyes, was wrong in the eyes of the teacher. We didn’t receive credit because we did it our way.

Solomon says there is a way that seems right to man. There are some things we think are right in our own way of thinking, but they go contrary to the will of God. The wisest man to have ever lived lets us know that there are moments when our thinking is not right and it produces nothing but trouble. Solomon himself was guilty of this. The Lord told Solomon not to marry the women from the other nations because they will take his heart away from God. With his seven hundred wives and three hundred concubines, Solomon did his own thing rather than trusting God. Wisdom says to trust God and He will make your paths straight. If we commit to His ways and not ours, we will be exactly where we need to be.
