April 22, 2024: My Reputation Will Be More Valuable Than My Bank Account

”A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, Loving favor rather than silver and gold“ -Proverbs‬ ‭22‬:‭1‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

At this point in my career, I have been teaching 14 years. During this time, I have had a lot of students come through my classroom. I have always made sure that I have done right by the students that I teach. There are moments when I go to stores or restaurants and run into these students. A bunch of them say “I got you Coach.” When they say this, discounts are given and sometimes extra food is coming home with us. I don’t ask for these things. They remember how I treated them and decide to bless in a tangible way. If they hear Coach Walker, they know they will take care of me.

In a world where money drives everything, Solomon says there is something better than money. Your reputation. It’s better for you to be chosen on your merits and character than to pay for your position. The way that you carry yourself will get to favor, not favors. Favor is given just because of how you carry yourself. Favors are given in exchange for something else. Wisdom would tell you to be the best version of yourself that you can be and allow who God created you to be to open the door.
