Trust In The Lord

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart And lean not to your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your path.” Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV

In context, verse 1 reads, “My son, do not forget my law, But let your heart keep My commands.” In this time of Post COVID-19 protocol, we are emerging with many in a state of confusion and anxiety. Questions arise, “Should I take the vaccine? What reactions will I have if I do take the vaccine? I have had all my shots; do I still have to wear the mask? Will we ever get back to normal? Will my kids be able to return to the classroom this fall?  

All the above are valid concerns. There is good news available to aid us in navigating these and all other concerns. In verse one of Proverbs 3, God makes His wisdom known to us. He says,” …forget not My law; but let thine heart keep my commandments.” His Word goes further in verses 2-4 and gives us the benefits that accrue to us.

Ultimately, He then tells us how we take advantage of these benefits, Trust in the Lord. Trust defined is “Firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something.”  In this instance, we are talking about the One True God, The Creator of the heavens and the earth. We who accounted among the believers have made the decision to follow Christ. We have put our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. To grow and mature in Him, we have to “practice” that faith submitting our lives and everyday actions to His guidance. That is why Solomon tells us to lean not to our own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him. Not some of our ways, not just in the large decisions but also in those we “assume” we know how to handle. Handling the small ones on your own may give you false bravado about handling the more difficult ones.

Here I want to share some practical steps in building a life that honors God and allows Him to show up mightily in your life:

• 1. “Be anxious for nothing…” (Philippians 4:6). Make an intentional decision not to worry (Trust God)
• 2. “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” (Proverbs 4:23). Above all you guard – your marriage, family, bank account, passwords, your car, or your house- guard your heart with more vigilance than anything else.
• 3. Saturate your heart with the Word of God. “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for them that love Him.” (1 Corinthians 2:9)
