But God: Finding Hope When Life Looks Impossible
Have you ever found yourself staring at a situation that seemed absolutely hopeless? Maybe the doctor's report came back with news you didn't want to hear. Perhaps your bank account is showing numbers that make your stomach drop. Or maybe relationships that once brought you joy now bring you pain. In those moments, what keeps you going?
There's a powerful two-word phrase that has the ability to completely transform how we view our circumstances: but God.

The Power of "But"
The word "but" is unique in its ability to negate everything that comes before it. Think about it—when someone says "I know you're struggling, but..." whatever follows that conjunction changes the entire meaning of the sentence. It shifts the focus from the problem to the solution.

In our spiritual lives, learning to put "but God" after our struggles creates a radical shift in perspective:

I know what the doctor's report says, but God is a healer.

I know what my bank account looks like, but God is a provider.

I know life is chaotic right now, but God gives peace that passes all understanding.

This isn't about denying reality or pretending problems don't exist. It's about acknowledging that while our struggles are real, the God who handles those struggles is even more real.

A Woman's Desperate Faith
The Gospel of Mark tells us about a woman who understood the power of "but God" before she ever heard the phrase. For twelve long years, she had suffered from an issue of blood. She had visited doctor after doctor, spending everything she had in search of healing. Nothing worked. In fact, she only grew worse.

According to the social and religious customs of her day, her condition made her "unclean." She wasn't supposed to leave her house. She wasn't supposed to be around other people. Anyone she touched would also be considered unclean. She was isolated, broke, sick, and without hope.

But she heard something.

She heard about a man named Jesus who was healing the sick and performing miracles. She didn't have a guarantee. She didn't have an appointment. She didn't even have permission to leave her house. All she had was what she heard about Jesus—and that was enough to spark faith.

When Faith Moves You Forward
Romans 10:17 tells us that "faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." This woman's faith was activated simply by hearing about Jesus. She hadn't met Him. She hadn't seen Him perform a miracle. But the testimony of others gave her enough faith to take action.

Here's what's remarkable: she wasn't supposed to be outside. She could have faced serious consequences for breaking social norms. People could have talked about her, rejected her, or even had her punished. But none of that mattered more than getting to Jesus.

Sometimes you have to press through obstacles to reach your breakthrough. The very crowd that would have criticized her for being there was the same crowd following Jesus—and by following them, she found her way to Him. Even your haters can inadvertently lead you to your destiny when you're determined to reach Jesus.

She didn't need to make a grand entrance. She didn't need to give a testimony or make a speech. She simply said to herself, "If I can just touch the hem of His garment, I will be made whole."

Small Steps, Big Shifts
What happened next demonstrates something powerful about faith: you don't have to do everything—you just have to take a step toward Jesus, and He'll do the rest.
She reached out through the crowd and touched the edge of Jesus' clothing. Immediately, she felt in her body that she was healed. The bleeding stopped. After twelve years of suffering, in an instant, everything changed.

But Jesus felt something too. He felt power go out from Him. In the middle of a crowd of people pressing against Him, He recognized that someone had touched Him differently. This wasn't just a casual bump in a crowded space—this was a touch of faith.

"Who touched me?" Jesus asked.

His disciples were confused. "Lord, there are crowds of people all around you, and you're asking who touched you?"

But Jesus knew. One touch in a crowd of many stood out because it was connected to faith.

More Than a Touch—A Connection
Not everyone in that crowd got healed, even though many were touching Jesus. What made this woman different? Her faith created a connection that went beyond the physical touch. She wasn't just trying to get close to a celebrity or religious figure—she was reaching out in desperation and trust, believing that Jesus could do what no one else could.

When Jesus asked who touched Him, the woman came forward, fearful and trembling. She knew she had broken the rules. She knew she could be in trouble. But she fell before Jesus and told Him the whole truth—twelve years of suffering, all her money gone, every failed attempt at healing.

And then Jesus spoke words that changed her identity forever.

From Outcast to Daughter
The story begins by calling her "a certain woman"—nameless, defined only by her condition. But when Jesus spoke to her, He called her something different: "Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace and be healed of your affliction."

Daughter. Not "unclean woman." Not "sick person." Not "rule-breaker." Daughter.
In one moment, Jesus shifted her entire identity from outcast to family. He claimed her as His own, right in front of everyone who had rejected her.

And notice what Jesus said made her well: not the touch itself, but her faith. It was her faith that moved Jesus. It was her faith that stopped Him in His tracks. It was her faith that connected her to the power of God.

Your Faith Can Touch Jesus Today
This story isn't just ancient history—it's a present-day invitation. Whatever you're facing right now, no matter how long you've been dealing with it, your faith can still touch Jesus.
You might not have the words for an eloquent prayer. Sometimes all you can manage is "Help me, Lord" or even just a groan. That's okay. Jesus responds to faith, not fancy language.

You might feel like you're not worthy to approach Him because of your past or your current condition. But remember, this woman wasn't supposed to be there either—and Jesus called her daughter.

You might be in the middle of a crowd of people who don't understand your struggle. But Jesus can feel your specific touch of faith among thousands.

Developing a "But God" Faith
So how do we develop this kind of faith? It starts with what we hear. Surround yourself with testimonies of what God has done. Read His Word. Listen to stories of His faithfulness. When you hear about what God can do, faith begins to rise.

Then, move anyway. Don't wait until you have it all figured out. Don't wait until the path is clear. Take a step toward Jesus even when the obstacles seem overwhelming.
Remember, it seems small, but it shifts everything. You don't have to fix your whole life before you come to Jesus. You just have to reach out to Him, and He'll handle the rest.

The Victory Waiting on the Other Side
Your situation has a "but God" waiting on the other side of your faith. The struggle is real—absolutely. But so is the God of the struggle.

When you learn to put "but God" into your vocabulary, your perspective changes. When you reach out in faith, even when it seems impossible, Jesus responds. And when Jesus speaks over your situation, He doesn't just address the problem—He changes your identity.

You're not defined by what you're going through. You're defined by whose you are.

So whatever you're facing today, add those two powerful words: but God. And then take a step of faith toward Jesus. He's waiting to call you daughter, to call you son, and to speak healing, restoration, and peace over your life.

Nothing is impossible for Him.

In the Garden of Eden, sin entered into the world. Now what should have happened is that should have been the end. The wages of sin is death. We should have never had another chance again. But God in His grace and mercy put a plan in place to handle it.

John 3:16 is a constant reminder of this plan. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. The “it” was a plan that was put in place for me. For you. For each and every one of us.

God’s plan was for His Son Jesus to take our place. A perfect man. An innocent man. One who knows no wrong is taking the place for my sins. He is my substitute. He understands the weight of what He is doing.

Just the night before we find Jesus praying for another way for this plan to come to fruition. Father, if you are willing, let this cup pass. Not my will, but your will be done.

When Jesus declared, “It is finished,” He wasn’t just referring to His suffering ending. He was proclaiming that the work He came to do—living a sinless life, bearing our guilt, satisfying the justice of God—was completely fulfilled. There was nothing more to add. Nothing left undone. He had carried out every requirement the Father had placed upon Him for our salvation.

He paid the full penalty for sin—not just for some, not partially, but completely for all who believe in Him. This means that if Jesus paid for your sins, God will never, ever demand that payment from you again. Justice has already been satisfied. To try and pay for your own sins now would be to deny the sufficiency of Christ’s sacrifice.

Have you ever felt like you have to “make it up to God” when you mess up? Maybe you try harder, pray more, or beat yourself up emotionally, thinking that will earn you back into God’s favor. But here’s the truth: Jesus already paid the price. Your debt is not only forgiven—it’s finished. There’s nothing you can add to it.

This doesn’t mean we take sin lightly. But it does mean we stop living in guilt and shame. We confess, repent, and walk forward in freedom—because the cross took care of the penalty. You don’t need to strive to be “good enough” anymore. You need only to rest in the finished work of Christ

Not because we’ve forgotten the past, but because we refuse to let it hold us hostage.

God speaks through Isaiah with clarity and hope: “Do not remember the former things.” That doesn’t mean erasing our memories, but rather refusing to dwell on what has already passed. Whether it’s past mistakes, heartbreak, failure, or even success—if we keep living in the rearview mirror, we’ll miss the new thing God is trying to do right in front of us.

Notice what God says next: “Behold, I will do a new thing.” Not “I might,” or “I’ll think about it.” He will. It’s a promise. And it’s not just any new thing—it’s something unexpected. A road in the wilderness. Rivers in a desert. That means even in the places that seem the most barren or broken, God is creating new paths, fresh starts, and unexpected blessings.

Maybe you’ve been hurt by someone who betrayed your trust. Maybe you’ve failed in a way that left you ashamed. Or maybe you’re just stuck in a season that feels dry, unfruitful, and lonely. Don’t let those “former things” keep repeating in your mind like a broken record.

Instead, declare over yourself: I’m moving on. Not because it’s easy, but because staying stuck is no longer an option. Take a step today—pray again, try again, forgive again. Expect God to show up in the middle of your wilderness. Believe that He can create a river in your desert.

Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.” -Ecclesiastes‬ ‭3‬:‭11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Waiting is hard. Whether you’re waiting for an opportunity, a breakthrough, or healing, the in-between can feel like a wilderness. We pray, we hope, we plan—yet things don’t always unfold on our schedule. Ecclesiastes 3:11 reminds us of a powerful truth: God is never late. He makes all things beautiful in His time, not ours.

This verse also highlights a mystery: God has placed a longing for eternity in our hearts, a desire for things to make sense beyond this moment. But we don’t see the full picture. We only get a piece of the puzzle—while God holds the completed masterpiece.

Think about Joseph in the Bible. God gave him dreams of leadership, but instead of instant success, Joseph faced betrayal, slavery, and prison. Years passed before the dreams became reality. But looking back, we see how every step—no matter how painful—was preparation. If Joseph had given up or rushed ahead, he might have missed the blessing that came with perfect timing.

In your own life, maybe you’re waiting for the right job, a relationship to heal, or direction for your next step. Trust that God sees what you don’t. His timing may feel slow, but it’s never off. Delays are not denials—they’re often divine setups.

God isn’t just working on your circumstance; He’s working on you. Waiting refines your faith, strengthens your character, and aligns your heart with His purpose. Trust His timing. Even when it feels silent, God is moving behind the scenes.

In moments of comparison or discouragement, we may wonder if we’re doing enough or if we even matter. But in Jeremiah 1:5, God reminds us of a powerful truth: our purpose was established long before we took our first breath.

God didn’t create us by accident. He knew us. That means He was intimately acquainted with every detail of who we are and who we’d become. He set us apart and gave us a divine assignment. Jeremiah’s calling was to be a prophet, but your purpose may look different—teaching, parenting, creating, leading, serving, encouraging, or simply loving those around you.

Sometimes we think purpose has to be grand or public—starting a ministry, writing a book, launching a business. But purpose often shows up in the everyday. If you’re a stay-at-home parent, your purpose might look like raising your children in love and faith, showing them the character of God in how you care and serve. If you’re working a job that feels mundane or overlooked, remember that your presence there may be someone’s answer to prayer. You bring light into every room you enter, and your consistency, integrity, and compassion are part of your divine assignment. Even in seasons where life feels directionless—like waiting for doors to open, healing from loss, or navigating transition—your purpose isn’t paused. God uses those quiet seasons to prepare and strengthen you. So whether you’re comforting a friend, serving behind the scenes, or simply choosing to show up when it’s hard—your life has purpose. Every step, every yes, every moment lived with intention matters.

His joy is present, accessible, and powerful. In Nehemiah 8, the people were weeping after hearing God’s Word—they felt the weight of conviction and the reality of their past. Yet Nehemiah told them not to mourn, because God’s joy was there to sustain them.

That’s the invitation to us, too. But what about the ordinary days? Or the difficult ones, where things feel out of sync and nothing seems to go as planned? That’s where this verse challenges us. God is posture of gratitude within the hardships we face. Why? Because gratitude keeps our hearts soft and our perspective lifted. It reminds us that we are not alone—that even in the stress, the silence, or the struggle, God is still present and working.

There may have been a day this week or even today that felt like the hot mess express. You overslept, spilled coffee on a white shirt, missed an important call, and felt behind on everything. Gratitude isn’t just a reaction to something good happening—it’s a posture of the heart, a daily decision to see life through the lens of God’s goodness, no matter the circumstances. When Paul wrote to the Thessalonians, he didn’t say “give thanks for everything” but “in everything give thanks.” That means even when the day is hard, when plans fall apart, or when we’re walking through uncertainty, we can still choose to say, “God, I’m grateful for today and all it brings.”

That choice isn’t denial—it’s trust. Trust that God is with you, working in every detail, using both the blessings and the challenges to shape you, teach you, and draw you closer to Him.

A lost job, a broken relationship, a diagnosis that knocks the wind out of us—moments when we wonder how we’ll even get through the day, much less the season. But in those moments, the affirmation “I can make it through anything” becomes more than just a nice phrase—it becomes a declaration of faith.

Romans 8:37 reminds us that we are more than conquerors through Christ. Not because we’re strong enough on our own, but because He who loves us empowers us to rise above. Being “more than a conqueror” means we don’t just survive challenges—we grow through them. We come out stronger, wiser, and more anchored in God’s promises.

You might not see the way forward right now. But trust this: God’s love is your power source. His grace is your fuel. But no matter where we find ourselves, God’s blessing remains. His favor is not confined to a single place, job, or season. It follows us because His presence goes with us. This verse in Deuteronomy reminds us that as we trust and obey God, we can walk with confidence, knowing that we are blessed in both our arrivals and departures.

Have you ever stepped into a new situation feeling unsure or walked away from something familiar with hesitation? Maybe you’re starting a new job, moving to a different city, or simply navigating a season of change. The beauty of God’s promise is that you don’t have to rely on circumstances to feel secure. His blessing covers you whether you’re entering a new door or closing one behind you. When you begin something, trust that God has already gone before you, preparing the way. When you leave something behind, rest in knowing that His blessing doesn’t stay behind—it goes with you. Instead of fearing change, embrace it with faith, knowing that wherever you go, you are never without God’s favor.

The journey is grueling, requiring discipline, endurance, and perseverance. There are moments of exhaustion when quitting seems like the only option. But the runner presses on, not because they feel strong every step of the way, but because they trust in the training that has prepared them. Similarly, our strength comes not from our own abilities but from the One who empowers us.

Maybe today you are facing an overwhelming task at work, struggling with a strained relationship, or dealing with a personal failure that makes you want to give up. Maybe it’s the friend who seems to have it all together, the coworker who gets all the recognition, or the parent who seems to do everything better. In relationships, at work, and even in our own minds, we can feel like we’re falling short.

But God’s truth says otherwise. What it is that we want. What we might give others. It is the thought and consideration of others that someone thought enough of you to give you a gift.

It is one thing when someone goes to Target or logs on to Amazon to get you a gift. It’s another thing when someone gives you everything they got just to show you how much they love you. God loves us so much that He sacrifices the life of His only son so that we could have another chance. Have you thought about this sacrifice?

He leaves heaven and enters the earth. Sacrifice. He does not get the royal entrance He deserves, but enters the world in a feeding trough for animals. Sacrifice. They made no room for Him in the inn, but yet He comes to make room for us all in eternity. Sacrifice. He is born with the sole purpose to die a painful death. Sacrifice.

When you wear or use the gift you receive, do you think about the person that gave it to you? Do you think about them when you are wearing the news shoes or watching the bigger television? Do you think about the sacrifices they made so that you could have it? When you wake up each day, you are a recipient of new mercies. The reason you get them is because of His sacrifice. When you think of Christmas, remember the sacrifice. The Father gives His Son so His Son can give His life. We didn’t and still don’t deserve anything, but the sacrifice was made for us.

And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.” -‭‭Matthew‬ ‭2‬:‭9‬-‭11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The wise men’s journey was long and filled with uncertainty, yet they persevered, guided by a star and their faith. When they finally found Jesus, they responded with two profound acts: worship and giving.

Their gifts—gold, frankincense, and myrrh—weren’t random. Each symbolized their recognition of Jesus’ identity: gold for His kingship, frankincense for His divinity, and myrrh for His sacrificial death. Through these offerings, they demonstrated their reverence and understanding of who Jesus was.

Their story reminds us that true worship involves more than words or songs—it requires offering our best to God. This isn’t just about material gifts but also about giving Him our time, talents, and hearts. Worship is an act of surrender, acknowledging Jesus as King in every area of our lives.
Reflect on what you can offer to God as an act of worship. Is it your time in prayer? Your talents in service? Perhaps it’s surrendering a part of your life you’ve been holding back. Like the wise men, give intentionally and joyfully, knowing that your gifts honor the One who gave everything for you.

After hearing the angels’ announcement, they didn’t hesitate or question the message—they immediately said, “Let’s go.” They left their flocks, their comfort zone, and their daily routines to witness the miraculous event.

It’s striking that God chose to reveal this incredible news to shepherds, people who were often overlooked and undervalued in society. They were ordinary people going about their daily work when suddenly the sky exploded with the sound of heavenly worship. The angels proclaimed the birth of Jesus, bringing a message of glory to God and peace to the world.

This passage reminds us that worship is both a response to who God is and a reflection of His work in our lives. The angels declared God’s glory because Jesus’ birth was the ultimate act of His love and grace. Similarly, our worship should flow from an awareness of what God has done for us through Christ.

But notice something else: worship isn’t confined to a specific place or moment. The angels sang in an open field, inviting shepherds—ordinary people like us—into the joy of heaven’s song.

When we get busy with life, it’s easy to overlook the opportunity to worship. It doesn’t have to be in church or during a formal moment; worship can happen anywhere—through a song, a prayer, or even a quiet moment of gratitude.
Let your heart join the angels’ song. Give glory to God, not just for what He has done, but for who He is: the loving, merciful Savior who brings peace to our lives.

The Savior of the world wasn't born in a palace but in a stable. He didn’t sleep in a gilded crib but in a manger—a feeding trough for animals. His arrival into the world reminds us that God often works in the ordinary and the unexpected.

Have you ever felt like your life is too ordinary for God to use? Maybe you're overwhelmed by daily routines or struggling with feelings of inadequacy. Luke 2:6-7 reminds us that God often chooses the humble, everyday moments to display His glory. Whether it's preparing a meal, helping a neighbor, or simply spending time with your family, invite Him into those moments. Remember, the manger wasn’t an accident—it was part of God’s plan. Life was hard, and God often felt far away.

One Christmas Eve, David’s church read Matthew 1:22-23 during the service:
"All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: ‘Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel’ (which means, God with us).”

The word fulfill struck him deeply. He thought about the centuries of waiting, the generations who clung to Isaiah’s prophecy, and how unlikely it must have seemed that God would send His Messiah in the form of a baby. Yet, there it was—God had kept His word, not in the grand way people expected, but in the most intimate way possible: by coming to dwell among them.

As the choir sang "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel," David’s doubts began to fade. Because her work was so precise, she was asked to work on the calculations to get to the moon. Despite the racial and gender barriers of the day, this announcement was made. Her commitment to the work is what made the mission successful. Even though she was afraid of something new, she committed to see what the end is going to be.

As we look at this announcement that the angel makes, it seems like this is good news. But for the vessel, her life is flipped upside down. She is a virgin who is engaged to be married, but now she is to bring forth the Savior of the world. This announcement is not only uncharted territory for Mary, it is also a declaration about who God chooses to use.

You have found favor with God. Here is something that we cannot overlook. In this movie, the Looney Tunes find themselves in a situation that they are outmatched by the Monstars to play a basketball game. In a sense of desperation, they have one last hope that would bring them victory. Michael Jordan.

At just the announcement of his name, the Tune Squad has hope that they can win the game. Even though they don’t have it all together just yet, knowing that one of the greatest basketball players of all time provides hope. Not only is he on their team, but he shows them how to win the game.

Isaiah 9:6 gives us some hope in the midst of some not so bright situations. Before these words, it seemed like we had no hope. There was destruction, invasions, sinful way of life. It wasn’t looking good. But the words “For unto us a child is born, Unto us a Son is given” changes things. A future is promised in the midst of darkness. A ray of hope is given in the future announcement of Jesus Christ. Even though it would be nearly 800 years before His arrival, this Son would do some things that would provide hope.

The government would be on His shoulders. Jesus would have the royal authority. That’s hope because other lands are taking them captive. Jesus would have complete control. He would be our Wonderful Counselor. That’s hope in that He one who’s indescribable in His character. Not only that, He will lead and guide us in the way to go in life. As Israel’s Mighty God, the Messiah will be a brave and powerful leader ruling over the armies of God like no other king before Him. He will be the divine hero and champion defender. As the Everlasting Father, the Messiah will be a father, and His fatherhood will be without end. There is hope in having a good, good, father. He is the Prince of Peace. There is hope in understanding the deeper, more foundational meaning of peace is “the spiritual harmony brought about by an individual’s restoration with God.”

We have a hope in understanding these names of Jesus the Messiah are not just names. They are what He is coming to do. When it seems as all is lost, hold on to the hope in Jesus Christ.

The only problem was he didn’t have the money to do so. So Matt took some crayons and wax and melted them in a milk carton as a gift for his mother. He made her a candle. A neighbor who wanted a candle as well gave him some money to buy some wax. This investment started him to start designing and making candles in his kitchen. This would be the start of one of the most famous candle companies in the world, Yankee Candle.

How does this story help us understand Micah 5:2? The prophecy said that God would take something from a place that no one would expect and make Him great. He will take something from humble beginnings and exalt him to a place where He would be a ruler. It doesn’t matter where you are in life, when God has a plan for your life He always finds a way to put you in place. From little bitty Bethlehem, God brought something great.

Scripture asks a question, “Can anything good come from Nazareth?” The response is “Come see.” Can anything good come from Mathis? Can anything good come from Corpus? Can anything good come from Lake City? Can anything good come from me? When God has given you a word that He is going to do something, watch it come to pass… even if it starts in a small place.

To simply put it, there are no impurities. There is nothing in His word designed to hurt you. What God speaks into our lives is to perfect us and make us better. If we choose to make His Word a part of our lives, He will be our shield. Our protector. Not just in times of battle, but when things are good as well. We have got to learn to trust Him. With each affirmation, I hope that you see something about God that you may night have noticed before. Peter Piper, Chuck E. Cheese, Urban Air, Jumping World just to name a few. Because they have no direct supervision, there are moments they do not exhibit any self control. They may be overactive, say words they wouldn’t normally say, and do things they wouldn’t normally do. Without the guidance around them to help them, they do what they want and that may not always be the best thing.

Where there is no divine guidance from God, the people can’t control themselves. When God’s Word is not consistently a part of our life, our flesh takes over and our decisions may not honor God. When we have His Word, wisdom, and guidance as a part of our life, it gives us what we need to be successful. We have to come to a place in our lives where we are ok with our way not taken precedence over what God is wanting to do in our lives. Where there is no vision, the people perish. If God has given us something to live with and for, we know we are destined for something great.

I ate your fries… my bad. My bad has become the sign of acknowledgment that something was done that shouldn’t have been done. However, there are some who are unable to say those words. For some, it’s someone else’s fault. For others, it’s hard for them to admit they have made a mistake.

It is this lack of acknowledgement that will hinder opportunities for growth. Some of the best growing experiences come from failures in life. When we sin, the first thing we must do is acknowledge the sin happened. After we know that we have messed up, we must ask for forgiveness. At this point, we strive not to do that again. There is remorse and a need to make sure that it doesn’t happen again. But if we don’t attempt these steps, we admit a couple of things. We did it on purpose. We were intentionally reckless with our actions. And we don’t care. With this type of attitude, we will never make it anywhere. Wisdom says strives to do the right thing. If we stumble or fall, we must own up to it.

As he helps his players grow, these former coaches are influencing him. Being perfectly aware and of who he is as a coach, he doesn’t want to stay stagnant. He wants to get better.

Our mindset has to be one in which we constantly strive to get better. As iron sharpens iron, that’s the only way it gets sharper. They have to intentionally rub against each other in a way to make it sharper. What are we doing to make each other better? How are we intentionally coming together to make everything around us better? Solomon gives us a reminder that you can make those around you better. And if you want to get better, intentionally seek those who can make you better. Don’t just expect it to happen by chance.

The way that we know that iron needs to be sharpened is that when it is time for it to used for its purpose, it doesn’t effectively do what it was created to do. The movie starts as school is getting out and Dexter (played by Kenan Thompson) has taken his parents’ car to school. On the way home, he gets into an accident with another car. Rather than calling his parents and letting insurance do its job, he decides to try to take care of it himself. Rather than do the right thing, he decides to do things in a way where his parents won’t find out. It causes him to get a job, try to cover up his mistakes, and gets involved into other situations that he wouldn’t have been involved in if he would have just told the truth. In his mind, this was the best idea rather than just admitting he messed up.

Anytime you view yourself as the smartest person in the room, you might want to change your room. If you think you know it all, there is no hope to changing your mindset. Solomon says if you find yourself here, there is more hope for a fool to gain wisdom than you. Pride sometimes won’t let us admit that we are wrong. If we get so prideful that we can’t see what’s right in front of us, that’s a dangerous place to be. We have got to be humble in the midst of misunderstanding to say I don’t know it all.
